Shipwreck

Arendschelling Kampen 1612-1619

 550.00

This is one of the finest schelling coins ever recovered from the Merestein shipwreck, a remarkably well-preserved piece minted in the Dutch city of Kampen. Despite being over 80 years old by the time it boarded the Merestein, the coin remains incredibly detailed. It was struck with exceptional centering and features a beautiful dark luster. The obverse shows only minimal evidence of its time at sea, with just a few small areas of saltwater damage. The reverse bears light maritime encrustation, particularly around the heads of the double-headed eagles—a subtle yet powerful reminder of its shipwreck history. Overall, this coin ranks among the best-preserved examples recovered from the wreck.
