Ducaton Antwerp

Presented here is a ducaton from the Spanish Netherlands, minted in the city of Antwerp. Despite its time at sea, this silver coin retains impressive detail . However, due to marine encrustation, the final digit of the date is no longer visible. Both the obverse and reverse show signs of saltwater damage, along with patches of encrustation. This buildup may have orginated from various iron object aboard the ship – though some suggest it came from an iron chest that once held this remarkable piece of history.
