Arendschelling Kampen 1612-1619

 225.00

A superb example of a high-quality schelling recovered from the Merstein shipwreck. Minted in the Dutch Republic in the city of Kampen, this coin still retains its original dark luster and displays remarkable detail—especially impressive given that it was struck around 80 years before it boarded the Dutch East Indiaman Merestein. The reverse features beautifully preserved elements, with the individual feathers of the double-headed eagle still clearly visible. The obverse has endured slightly more exposure to seawater, with some saltwater damage visible on the lower part of the shield. Nonetheless, this piece stands out as a testament to both its craftsmanship and resilience.
