This Spanish Netherlands ½ Ducaton, minted in Brussels in 1637, showcases an exquisite and authentic dark patina. Despite spending decades in circulation before boarding the ill-fated Merestein, the coin retains remarkable detail. This is especially evident on the reverse, which features an intricately designed shield held by two lions. The ½ Ducaton is notably rarer than the full Ducaton recovered from the wreck, making this piece an exceptionally difficult find in such preserved condition.
